Channel Islands Cetacean Research Unit

CICRU strives to assess the man-made and natural detriments to whales, dolphins, and porpoises (cetaceans) in and around the Santa Barbara Channel. Cetaceans are considered “sentinel” species, which means they are indicators of ocean health.

If we can determine the detrimental burdens these animals carry, we can better understand the condition of the ocean. Ultimately, these findings will help make better choices for a brighter future in the protection of all marine animals.
